WORKPLACE WELLNESS

If you are a small to medium sized business owner or HR person, you should be concerned with the health and wellness of your employees.  It can be argued that your employees are your most valuable asset.  Small businesses are especially vulnerable, when a key team member is out with illness/injury.  If you’d like a cost effective way to say to your employees “I care about you”, then you can have me conduct wellness evaluations and then institute inexpensive programs to assist your employees on the road to better health.

Rebuiding Together

Saturday, 4/27, was Rebuilding Together’s push to get 3 houses on Aquidneck Island remodeled.  What I love about projects like this is that it brings people together from all walks of life to help someone out that they don’t know.  While it’s great that we can come together around crisis such as 9/11 and the Boston Marathon, I’d like to see that community spirit carryover to our everyday existence.  After thinking about the fact that in the past I got more paint on myself than the walls and lugging bricks didn’t do my back any good, I brought a  table down to do bodywork on the workers at the Middletown site.  It was a good day for those who participated and for those who received the benefits of the work done.

Spring Planting

Springtime is the time for planting seeds in your garden, business, and personal life.  Don’t be afraid to be adventurous in your planting.  Dream big and create a vision and put it out and do the action steps to make it happen.  Life is a lot like gardening. The Boston Marathon

Like many of you, I was deeply moved by the tragedy at the Boston Marathon. I’ve run the Marathon some years back and my times would have been right around the the bomb times. I’ve been thinking about how there is victory and defeat, exultation and tragedy oftentimes rolled into the same energy around an event. We need to find a different way to be in this world. Violence is not the answer.Dr. Bernie Seigal said simply that “health is love.” The Beatles said,”all we need is love.”If there was ever a time that we needed a new vision for living in this world; it’s now.

Vacation Renewal

I just got back from a wonderful vacation week in Florida. What made it great was my time spent with family, regular meditation, t’ai chi, swimming, biking, eating healthfully, and chiropractic. We don’t have to wait for a vacation to bring these practices into our lives. Instead they can be part of our everyday routine. Pick one and start gently to bring it into your daily routine. Once it is a part of you move onto the next  practice. Newport Chamber Expo.

Tuesday, 3/12 is the day of the Newport Chamber of Commerce Exp. at the Hyatt Hotel. I’ll be there with the Chamber Connections Networking Group representing Aquidneck Chiropractic.  The Expo goes from 4-7. There is plenty to see and do and people to meet.  I’ll be next to Carol and Margaret from Swipe For A Cause, the best credit card processors.  Also be sure to visit Shari McGill for a sample chair massage.

Spring Is Right Around the Corner?

I’m thinking about spring, but looking at snow on Aquidneck Island(Newport, Middletown, Portsmouth),RI. The good news is that this time it’s a light snow for shoveling.  You should still use good body mechanics: bend your knees, keep your back straight, push rather than throw the snow, don’t lean too far out,  do slow warm up stretches before and after you shovel. Of course if you do run into a problem, I am ready to assist you with gentle/specific Activator Methods Chiropractic at Aquidneck Chirpractic.

Common Sense

Please use common sense this weekend. Use good body mechanics, if you are shoveling. Bend your knees, shovel small amounts, don’t lean out too far, don’t try to do the job all at once, ask for help, and/or hire someone to assist you.  Also make sure that you have a good survival kit for the storm should there be a power outage.  Stay warm and enjoy mother nature in her power.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! What’s not to like-eat, drink, be merry and give thanks.  Let’s eat consciously, slowly, and thankfully.  There are many folks in the world who are not blessed with the abundance of food supply that we have in the U. S. There are many people in the U. S. that are hurting for the basics.  As we sit down in our warm houses with our abundance of food and people we love, let’s be thankful and look for ways to be more giving in this holiday season and all year round: be healthy, be happy be love.
